hello beloved friends!
I have some big news, something that's been in the works for awhile now and that I'm so excited to share. Beloved Photography will now be known at Shannon Yau Photography. Why the change? You'll find the brief answer on my new blog (here!) but I will say that it was time for change. I will forever call this photography venture of mine an adventure and with that comes growth and change.
Beloved will always hold a soft spot in my heart but I'm so excited to share this new identity. It's beautifully crafted and feels so me. :)

I'm pretty sure desert sunrise is the name of some bad cocktail, but it's also something I had the opportunity to witness while I was at WPPI last week. Sorry I've been mia for awhile, I've been recovering. While it was great to catch up with friends from afar, see a few inspiring speakers, escape the cold weather for a few days, and live the vegas life.. (sorta, let's be real, I don't even come close to living the vegas life!), my body quickly reminded me that this is not the way we roll and I spent the entire weekend in bed with a nasty cold. I'm finally feeling better and thought I'd share a few frames from the desert. There are 3, as few as that may be, it's 3 more than I took last year so I'm making progress.
These shots were taken around 6am, it was early and incredibly cold but SO worth it.

pretty much the day after I launched my website I started thinking of new ideas. I'm still coming up with those ideas but they take time and $$ to become a reality, neither of which I have an abundance of these days. In the meantime little ol' belovedphoto.com just got a facelift! She's a liitle bit prettier and a lot more up to date and should hold me over until beloved 2.0 becomes a reality :)
And because posts are kind of boring without photos I thought I'd share two. This adorable little man was first introduced to the blog a little less than a year ago, here he was then...

Isn't he adorable?!!! Just another reminder of how fast this past year has gone by.

Dear blog and blog reader(s),
My sincere apologies for being so negligent over the past couple weeks. You see it was Christmas and thus I had many presents to buy, wrap, unwrap, etc. There was also the baking that needed to be done then eaten. It was exhausting. Next came the the year and with that new beginnings.
One of my goals for this year is to find better balance. Last year Beloved somewhat took over my life. I'm not necessarily complaining, I just decided that this year has to be a little different. I plan on being for efficient, doing things a little differently, learning from my mistakes.
I also plan on doing a little more for me. This includes starting the year off with a 30 day yoga challenge. Yup, nothing like starting things off with a bang. So far I'm 5 days in and I'm a little sore but overall feel great. Check back in 20 days and we'll see if I feel the same way. I also decided to start the year with a cleanse, you know as a remedy for all those baked goods and eggnog. I decided to go with the wildrose cleanse this time around and so far so good. I'm 1/2 done and really haven't found it that hard. I've been quite creative with rice cakes but I'm actually enjoying finding cleanse friendly recipes.
So that's my start to the year. This is the calm before the storm and I am taking it as time for me. It won't last long and before I know it I'll be shooting weddings every weekend again. The first one is next weekend and I'm really excited for it. My first winter wedding! It's outside so please pray for warmish weather for us!!
I also have a boudoir marathon coming up in January and I'll leave you with that. I promise to make blogging part of my routine again...soon.

It's time.. dum da da dum... for the 2010 photo extravaganza! These are a selection of my favourites from the past year. Some have appeared on the blog before and some are brand new. You might look at some and think "what's so good about that one", the answer is I don't know, I just like them! Going through these made me realize just how crazy a year it's been. I am so unbelievably grateful to all my clients, for trusting me to help tell their story. It was a year of ups and downs, many happy dances and many meltdowns. At some points I felt like I was spending more time with my computer than people. I cried. alot. but I laughed alot more and that's why it's worth it.
2010 was an incredible year for beloved but I've learned some things and I'll take that into 2011 and make that an even better year.
Even if you don't have a blog, take a moment to reflect on how far you've come this year, you might be amazed at what you've done. This is also the perfect spot to lead into my 2011 List Post.. which will be coming soon! :)
